Year 6 Blog Post - 27.02.2026

26th February 2026

Year 6 have come back from the half-term break with fantastic focus and determination, picking up the pace straight away. They are working incredibly hard as we continue our SATs preparations, showing great maturity and resilience in their learning. It has been wonderful to see how motivated the children are and how determined they are to do their very best.

One of the highlights of the week was our WW2 Day. The children absolutely loved the opportunity to learn even more about life during the war and really enjoyed experiencing aspects of the period. This has inspired our writing, where the class are completely engrossed in creating stories about a main character who travels back in time to WW2. The ideas, creativity and atmosphere they are building in their writing have been fantastic.

Year 6 had a lovely time celebrating International Mother Language Day. It was wonderful to see how proudly children shared their languages with the class and in assembly and to see how the other children listened to them so intently and respectfully. We watched language videos in all of the children’s languages, researched languages and overall it was a really lovely celebration. How amazing the children looked in their traditional clothes!

In maths, we have been tackling word problems involving fractions, with pupils showing great perseverance as they work through the different steps needed to solve them. In reading, we have been practising a range of SATs-style questions to build confidence and understanding of the different question types.

The sunshine also gave us a perfect opportunity to enjoy badminton during PE this week, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. It has been a brilliant start back after half term and we are very proud of how hard Year 6 are working. Keep it up, Year 6! ☀️🎾
