Year 6 Blog Post- 23.01.2026

23rd January 2026

Year 6 have been working super hard and showing us how dedicated they are to their learning.  We are very proud of their impressive efforts.

In English, Year 6 have been  unpicking the story of the Three Pigs and have been planning and writing a crime fiction text.  To do this they chose lots of expanded noun phrases and similes and used these in their writing.  They have also continued their SPAG lessons and have been learning about determiners, the perfect tense and how to correctly punctuate a sentence.

In Maths, Year 6 have turned their attention to geometry.  They have been learning about coordinates in the four quadrants and have been translating and reflecting shapes.  In Arithmetic they have been working on answering a range of questions from different topics including percentage questions, long division and fractions calculations.

In Science, Year 6 completed their unit of work on Light and started their new learning, all about micro-organisms.  They learnt about the different types of micro-organisms before taking taking part in an investigation into the best conditions for mould formation on bread, which they will be monitoring closely over the next few weeks!

In History Year 6 have been learning about World War 2, thinking about the causes of the war and what life was like during the war.  They learnt about how some children were evacuated from the cities to the countryside and thought about the thoughts and feelings of the evacuees by putting themselves into their shoes and writing a letter home from one of the evacuees.

In PE, Year 6 began their new dance unit and have been working in small groups to practise different dance phrases and create their own routines.  They needed to use loud, confident actions (stamping and clapping), to create the music in their routines and needed confidence to share their ideas with their group.

In Art, Year 6 completed their new packaging for their chosen food item: what colourful, vibrant and informative designs they made! Well done Year 6!
