What a fantastic couple of weeks Year 6 have been having! They have worked extremely hard and shown us what a dedicated team they all are! This week was our fantastic trip to the Pioneer Centre! Wow! What an incredible time we have had! To say that Year 6 were excited about going would be an enormous understatement! They have taken their enthusiasm and energy and got stuck into a wide range of activities including raft building, caving, abseiling, climbing, archery and fencing.
Well done Year 6 you have made us incredibly proud of you and we are looking forward to seeing what else you can achieve this year.
In English Year 6 worked really hard to write their own autobiographies. They thought about the key characteristics of an autobiography and planned and wrote their own, editing along the way and showing us their excellent attention to detail. In English we began our amazing new Whole Class Reader book ‘Boy,’ by Roald Dahl. In preparation, we learnt about the history of schools and made predictions about what was going to happen and we are super excited about reading it!
In Maths Year 6 have been multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 and practising their arithmetic skills. Year 6 have also been identifying the value of a digit in any number up to a million and identifying the value of a missing number up to a million.
In Science we have been learning about evolution and inheritance. First of all we learnt about inherited traits and we thought about who we had inherited our characteristics from in our family. Next we have been learning about adaptation and adaptive traits. We have been learning about how animals and plants adapt to their environment over time and how they animals them to survive in their habitats.
