Year 6 Blog - 21.11.2025

20th November 2025

Year 6 have demonstrated amazing focus and energy throughout the last couple of weeks. We enthusiastically celebrated Odd Socks Day, wearing our odd socks with pride to show how we embrace the differences between us that make us unique.

In English, we have been planning and crafting imaginative newspaper articles on mysterious events happening in the Shire. This creative task was an introduction to our exciting new Whole Class Reading text, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. We look forward to exploring the rich literary world of this classic fantasy novel.

Our Maths focus has been on various fractions calculations. This advanced work involved applying all four operations and learning about equivalence. We have been exploring the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages and recognising that they are different ways of expressing the same value.

In Science, we transformed into evolutionary biologists, carrying out an exciting investigation into adaptation and natural selection. We studied the groundbreaking research of Charles Darwin on the Galápagos finches, and examined how the structure of the beaks allowed the finches to thrive in their unique environments.

In PE we have been developing both technical and tactical skills for netball, including various passes and the essentials of attacking and defending. We focused on understanding how to utilise space effectively and how our positioning affects the game.

What an exciting and engaging time we have had!!
