6th November 2025
Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's peek into the fantastic learning happening in Year 6! We've had a busy and quite diverse week, stretching our imaginations and sharpening our academic skills across English, Maths, and History.
This week in English, we put on our most serious faces and delved into the world of formal writing by crafting letters of complaint. The twist? The children pretended to be the legendary author, Roald Dahl, writing to a doctor about some perceived slight or poor treatment! 😠
The creativity was brilliant, but what truly impressed the teachers was how well the children adopted the appropriate, very formal tone required for such correspondence. They mastered the structure, vocabulary, and politeness (albeit slightly grumpy politeness!) needed for a proper letter of complaint. It was fantastic to see them fully get into character!
It's time to dust off those fraction skills, as we've officially dipped back into fractions in Maths. This week’s focus has been on the core operations: multiplying and dividing fractions.
This is crucial preparation as we ramp up for our next round of mock assessments scheduled for the last week of November. Getting these foundational skills sharp now will set everyone up for success! Keep practising those skills at home!
Our History lessons took a fascinating turn as we explored the development of law and order. We learned all about the formation of the Metropolitan Police—how London's policing system came to be—and compared that to the systems we have today.
More vividly, we discussed how punishments for criminals have changed over the last century. It sparked some great classroom discussions about fairness, justice, and how society’s values have evolved. It’s quite a contrast from the historical accounts we’ve read!
It's been a week full of high-level thinking, from mastering Dahl-esque indignation to mastering fraction division. Well done to all the Year 6 pupils for their hard work and focus!
