The post-SATs era has officially begun, and I have to say, the children have hit the ground running! With the pressure of exams finally behind us, we’ve thrown ourselves back into the wider curriculum, and the energy and curiosity in the classrooms has been brilliant to see.

Here is a look at what we’ve been up to over the past fortnight:

Jet-Setting Across South America 

In geography, the children have been really interested in learning all about three incredible countries in South America: Brazil, Peru, and Argentina. We’ve been looking closely at maps, researching fascinating facts, and analyzing exactly why each of these destinations is so popular with tourists. The depth of their research has been fantastic, and they’ve loved exploring everything from the Amazon to Machu Picchu.

"I'm an 11-Year-Old... Get Me Out of Here!" 

Yes, it’s that time of year! The scripts are out, and we have officially started rehearsing our leavers' production: "I'm an 11-Year-Old: Get Me Out of Here!" The children have been focusing hard on learning their lines and songs, and we are already seeing some fantastic acting talent emerge. It’s going to be a brilliant show.

Focusing on Wellbeing: With the transition to secondary school just around the corner, we’ve been using our My Happy Mind sessions to focus on mental wellbeing. We’ve been learning all about how to set goals and why it's so good for our minds to have positive targets to work toward.

Keeping Safe, Inside and Out 

Alongside all the excitement, we’ve also been focusing on some really important life skills to keep the children safe as they grow more independent:

  • In Computing: We’ve been learning about online safety, ensuring the children know how to navigate the digital world responsibly.

  • In PSHE: With summer on the horizon, we’ve been tackling water safety, teaching the children how to stay safe around open water and what to do in an emergency.

It’s been a packed, vibrant couple of weeks, and I’m so proud of how maturely Year 6 are approaching their final term with us. Stay tuned for more production updates in our next post!
