Year 6 Blog - 01.05.2026

30th April 2026

Year 6 have continued to impress us with their amazing hard work, resilience and determination as they enter the final weeks of preparation for their Year 6 SATs tests.

In English, children have been editing their non-chronological reports on World War 2. The process has seen them changing from writers to meticulous editors, focusing on improving their work by selecting more sophisticated vocabulary and punctuation to ensure that their reports are as impactful as possible.

In Maths, we have turned our focus towards algebra. Year 6 have been tackling the complexities of algebraic problem solving and have shown a fantastic understanding of algebraic patterns.  We have been particularly impressed with their resilience and can-do attitude when faced with problems, all while continuing with daily arithmetic and reasoning revision in preparation for their Year 6 SATs.

Our History curriculum has seen the children continue learning about World War II, shifting their focus towards the turning points of the conflict such as the Battle of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, and the conclusion of the war.  Children have developed an excellent understanding of how these events shaped modern history and their engagement has been exceptional.

Finally, in Art, Year 6 have been exploring the unique style of Paul Klee, specifically his use of line and form. They have applied these techniques to create their own self-portraits, using an abstract approach with geometric shapes and warm colours as a focus. The result is a vibrant collection of work that demonstrates their technical skill and their ability to think creatively.

Well done to all of Year 6 for such a fantastic start to the final term!
