What a fantastic start to the new term! It has been wonderful to see the children return with such energy and focus. Everyone has been working exceptionally hard across all subjects, balancing their academic efforts with plenty of fun along the way.
This week, our classroom turned into a hub of debate as we began planning balanced arguments on whether school uniforms should be compulsory. The children have been busy recruiting peers from around the school to gather a wide range of viewpoints. They even put me in the hot seat, interviewing me to find out my personal stance on the topic! I’ve been so impressed by their persuasive points and can’t wait to see their finished independent writes next week.
We have officially reached the end of our Fractions and Decimals unit. To really solidify our knowledge, we’ve been using Cuisenaire rods to visualize and deepen our understanding of improper fractions and mixed numbers. We have also been practicing rounding decimals to the nearest whole number and the nearest tenth.
Our Science lessons have been a highlight this week as we dive into our new topic on mixtures. We rolled up our sleeves for a practical experiment exploring how to separate different materials. Watching the magic of the filter paper separate the sand from the water was a definite crowd-pleaser! We experimented with sieving and filtration to see which mixtures could be successfully separated. It was messy, scientific, and a lot of fun!
We also took a moment to celebrate the incredible diversity of our world for International Languages Day. The children were eager to learn phrases in a variety of languages, including Mandarin! It was particularly lovely to hear from the multilingual members of our own class. They shared their expertise with such pride, reminding us all what an amazing skill it is to speak more than one language.
