Year 5 Blog Post- 23.01.23

23rd January 2026

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks taking part in forest school, writing our own adventure stories, revising some key maths knowledge and acting during class assemblies!

In English, we have been focussing on the book ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. We created our own characters who loved animals. On their birthday, they receive a toy of their favourite animal, but little did they know it was going to come to life and take them on some wonderful adventures! I am so excited to see where everyone's characters get to do adventuring in the middle of the night!

In maths, we have been strengthening our knowledge of number and place value. We have revisited lots of topics including rounding, long multiplication and short division. Everyone has shown great resilience and has made progress with all of these topics.

In forest school, we spent the day getting mucky! We started off by making our dens, went fishing in the pond for any forest school items that had lost their way and ended the day making pine cone feeders and Cheerio and popcorn tinsel for the birds to enjoy. We can’t wait to see what our next session will bring!

During our class assemblies on Tuesdays, we have been thoroughly enjoying our My Happy Mind sessions. This half term, we are focussing on celebrating our strengths. We have explored the 6 different character virtues and had a go at acting them out for our classmates to guess. It was lots of fun!
