28th March 2025
It's been another exciting and productive few weeks in Year 5! The children have been engaged in a wide range of activities, showcasing their creativity, problem-solving skills, and curiosity about the world around them.
English – Inspired by Cosmic
Our writing lessons have been filled with adventure as we explored Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The children have been crafting imaginative stories about a 13-year-old boy who looks like an adult and manages to experience all sorts of grown-up privileges, from driving cars to sneaking onto thrilling rollercoasters! The creativity and humour in their writing have been fantastic to see.
Maths – Mastering Measurements
In maths, we have been working hard to convert between imperial and metric units. This has involved plenty of practical problem-solving and real-world applications, helping the children to understand when and why these conversions are useful. They have shown great perseverance and accuracy in their work—well done, Year 5!
Science – Growth and Development
Our science lessons have been all about growth and change. We've been learning about the developmental stages that babies and toddlers go through, discussing key milestones such as crawling, walking, and talking. It has been fascinating to compare these stages and consider how we all began our journeys of learning and discovery.
Geography – Understanding Climate Change
In geography, we have started an important and thought-provoking topic: climate change. We began by learning about the five main climate zones across the world and how they influence life in different regions. The children have been asking great questions and showing real enthusiasm for understanding how our planet’s climate is changing and what we can do to help.
Water Workshop with Severn Trent
A real highlight last week was our visit from Severn Trent, who delivered a fantastic water workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the importance of saving water and discovered some brilliant strategies to reduce water waste. From fixing leaks to turning off taps while brushing our teeth, we all left the session feeling motivated to make a difference!
As always, we are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm Year 5 continue to show in their learning. Keep up the great work!
