Year 5 Blog - 28.02.2025

28th February 2025

Year 5 have had a fantastic few weeks, packed with exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum!

In history, the children have been stepping back in time to the Shang Dynasty, exploring what life was like in Ancient China. They have written diary entries from the perspective of people living in this fascinating period, bringing history to life with their imaginative and descriptive writing.

In maths, we have been tackling percentages, developing our understanding of how they relate to fractions and decimals. The children have worked hard to grasp these new concepts and have enjoyed applying their knowledge to real-life scenarios.

Our English lessons have seen us begin reading The Fastest Boy in the World by Elizabeth Laird. The children made some thoughtful predictions about the story before we started reading and are now excited to find out what happens next!

In science, we have been learning about metamorphosis, discovering how animals such as butterflies and frogs go through incredible transformations. Building on this, the children are also working on a non-chronological report to share their knowledge.

Another exciting milestone this week was our first swimming session! The children completed their initial assessment and are now looking forward to developing their confidence and skills in the water over the coming weeks.

Well done, Year 5, for all your hard work so far – we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!
