Year 5 Blog - 20.12.2024

20th December 2024

As we near the end of the year, Year 5 students have packed the last two weeks with excitement, learning, and holiday cheer. From festive performances to creative activities, it’s been a whirlwind of memorable moments that showcased both their talents and their festive spirit.

The excitement kicked off with a truly special carol concert at the local church, where Year 5 gave an outstanding performance. With their voices ringing through the church, the students brought the holiday spirit to life. Their enthusiasm and teamwork were evident as they sang their hearts out, spreading joy to all who attended. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season and highlight the importance of coming together as a school community.

A magical trip to Santa’s grotto followed, where the students met Santa and shared their Christmas wishes. The experience was made even more special with a cozy treat of hot chocolate by the campfire. It was a delightful experience that truly captured the magic of the season.

In the classroom, Year 5 has been busy with some exciting learning tasks. They started by reading Gorilla by Anthony Browne, which sparked their creativity and inspired them to write their own imaginative stories. Through this task, the students explored themes of friendship, imagination, and overcoming challenges, producing a range of thoughtful and exciting stories.

Year 5 also ventured into Geography, where they have been learning about rivers. They explored the journey of a river, from its source to its mouth, and studied how rivers shape landscapes and impact communities. The students also worked on mapping exercises to trace the world’s famous rivers, developing a strong understanding of how vital these waterways are to our world. Their newfound knowledge helped them see rivers not just as geographical features, but as key parts of the world’s ecosystems and cultures.

The creative energy didn’t stop there. The students also explored the world of chalk pastels, using the medium to create beautiful artwork for their holiday cards and calendars. They experimented with blending colours and creating textures that reflected the winter season, producing stunning pieces of art that they could share with their families. These colourful creations were the perfect way to spread festive cheer and show off their artistic skills.

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of festive fun, creativity, and learning. It’s clear that Year 5 students have embraced every opportunity to make this time of year special. With their performances, artwork, writing, geography knowledge, and holiday spirit, they’ve truly made the most of this joyful season.

As we look ahead to the new year, there’s no doubt that Year 5 will continue to bring enthusiasm and creativity to everything they do. It’s been an unforgettable end to the year, and we can’t wait to see where their imaginations take them next!
