Year 5 have had a lovely and very busy couple of weeks! This has included lots of practising for our Dudes and Donuts performance, exciting activities at forest school, practising our sewing skills during Design Technology, as well as working really hard to complete our class assessments.
In English we have been researching, planning and writing a poem called The Best Animals in the World, which is based on the poem, The Most Dangerous Animal in the World by Valerie Bloom. We have been having fun learning about putting the comma in the wrong place can cause funny mistakes and we have continued with our Whole Class Reading book Who Let the Gods Out.
In Maths we have been practising our calculations skills including multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, finding percentages of numbers and finding missing number fractions.
In Science we continued our topic about changing states and we very much enjoyed our Great Science Share day where we learnt all about the coral reef and even created a model of the coral reef from skittles to demonstrate coral bleaching caused by global warming.
In PE we have been practising our orienteering skills. We used the PE equipment to represent map symbols and we used the maps for orienteering in our groups. It was lots of fun!
On Tuesday we had a visit from the Gazebo Theatre who carried out a performance and workshop centred around hate crime and we explored different scenarios by role-playing in our groups and acting these out in front of the class.
