What an incredibly busy and fabulous last couple of weeks we have had in Year 5! From making spaghetti bolognese, to taking part in a Mock SATs week and even attending a rock concert we have been super active!
In English we continued our book ‘Kick’ by Mitch Johnson where we have been learning about children’s rights and how in some parts of the world today children go to work rather than attending school. We have been writing sentences in order to write a persuasive letter to say that this needs to end! We finished off our hilarious Whole Class Reading book ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ by Maz Evans, which we thoroughly enjoyed, and this week we have been reading ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.’
In Maths we continued working on fractions. We have been multiplying and dividing fractions and during our lesson starters we have been working out the missing number in various equations, solving worded division problems and finding the missing factor.
In Design Technology we completed our cooking unit of work by cooking a delicious Spaghetti Bolognese. First of all we researched alternative recipes for Spaghetti Bolognese and then, within our small groups, we decided on which recipe to use and then spent a day preparing our ingredients, cooking and eating our delicious meals. We even designed a label for our sauce and we discussed which one we would choose to use for our Spaghetti Bolognese.
After this we continued making soft toys using the Blanket Stitch. We stuffed our sea creature themed toys and added eyes and other details to the toys. We did an amazing job and are extremely proud of ourselves!
On Tuesday this week we had a special treat when we were visited by musicians from Dudley Performing Arts, including our very own guitar teacher Mr Fellows! They performed a very special rock concert for us, where we got the chance to rock out to various tunes including Queen and the Beatles. It was an amazing show!
So here we are at the end of Year 5. It has been a fantastic year and we are incredibly proud of the children for their enthusiasm, dedication and hard work. Have an amazing summer and we look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready to start your Year 6 journey.
