It has been an incredibly busy two weeks in Year 5, and I have to say - the children have absolutely blown my socks off! The level of focus in the classroom has been brilliant, and it is wonderful to see everyone making such fantastic progress.

✍️ English: Villains or Victims?

In our English lessons, we have been diving deep into the world of narrative writing. We’ve been sharpening our tools by practicing:

• Dialogue: Using speech marks to bring our characters to life.

• Expanded Noun Phrases: Adding detail and description to our settings.

• The Passive Voice: Learning how to change the focus of our sentences for effect.

Coming up next week: We will start planning our very own independent stories based on The Three Little Pigs. But there’s a catch... in our version, the Wolf is innocent! We can’t wait to see how the children twist this classic tale.

🔢 Marvellous Maths

We have officially crossed the finish line with our unit on converting units of measurement. It was a tricky topic, but the resilience shown by the class was top-notch!

We have now moved on to exploring whole numbers and decimals. This requires a lot of precision, and everyone is doing a great job of staying focused and tackling these new challenges head-on.

🎭 PSHE: Managing Our Emotions

In our PSHE lessons, we have been exploring the complex world of our emotions, with a particular focus on anger. We discussed how, when things go wrong, getting angry can sometimes feel like the "easier" way to respond, but we discovered that it is rarely the right one. To help us understand this, we took part in some role-playing activities. This allowed us to step into different scenarios and practice how to stay calm and find better ways to solve problems together!

📖 Whole Class Reader: Who Let the Gods Out?

We are still loving our daily reading sessions of Who Let the Gods Out! by Maz Evans. Things have taken a very dark turn—Thanatos has been found again after being released from the cave!

The atmosphere in class was electric as we made predictions about who Elliot and Virgo might turn to for help. Will the Gods step up, or is trouble brewing for our heroes? We can’t wait to find out!
