Year 5 Blog - 13/09/2024

12th September 2024

We have had a fabulous start to Year 5! The children have quickly settled into Year 5 and have been working incredibly hard.  We have been blown away by their amazing attitude to learning and we are so proud of them!

We have had a fantastic couple of weeks! This has included learning about our Year 5 routines; learning about the British values, focusing on Democracy and we had an amazing Roald Dahl day! We loved the Roald Dahl Day assembly and had amazing fun bringing in items for the ‘Guess My Roald Dahl book!’ activity!   We got to design our own Roald Dahl book cover on a fabric t-shirt which was amazing fun!

In English we have been loving our new space topic about an astronaut that gets stranded on Mars and have begun writing a transmission to send back to NASA to get us home.  We have been learning about Mars and generating vocabulary to describe Mars.

In Maths we have been using 5-digit numbers to round to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 and 10,000 and we have been confidently using the < > and = symbols to compare and order different numbers.

In Science, we have been looking at our Working Scientifically skills such as observing, recording and presenting and we investigated different types of rock using our amazing recording skills.

In Art we have been investigating Typography . we used different items such as twigs, leaves, grasses, nuts and bolts to make different letters which we then sketched into our Art books. We have also been practising ‘Strong drawing,’ by sketching over an OS map using art pencils.
