What an incredible start to year 5! Everyone has come back well and remembered all of our school rules and routines. We’ve dived straight into lots of our new and exciting topics and we’ve all been working really hard to always do our best.
In English, we have been looking at writing a non-fiction journal about someone who travels to space. But things don’t go exactly to plan and the writer is desperately trying to get in contact with the space station. I wonder what will happen next?
In maths, we have been learning all about palace value in 5 and 6-digit numbers. We’ve found this quite challenging at times but everyone has been super resilient and has not given up along the way. We’ve learned to round these numbers, order them and compare them.
In science, we have conducted our first experiment of the year all about light and shadow. We turned the lights off in the classroom and used a torch to make shadows to see if when the area of a shape increases, the area of the shadow increases or decreases. We had lots of fun!
We’ve also had a visit from archery paralympian Mel Clarke who told us all about her life and the difficult things she has had to overcome along the way. We took part in an archery workshop and practised our target practise skills. We even scored a bullseye!
