What a fantastic first week back! We have dived straight into some of our new topics, have been practising our guitar skills, and had the most amazing time on Egyptian Day.
In English, we have started our third unit where we will be building up to writing our own persuasive letter. This topic links in with a book called “Kick” by Mitch Johnson. it follows the story of a young boy whose dream is to become a footballer. Instead he must work long hours making and sewing football kits and football boots in a factory. We have explored how child labour is illegal in many countries but how it still happens in some places around the world. Our model text showed a letter to a famous footballer, writing to persuade him to try and make changes to this.
In maths, we have started looking at multiplication and division, a topic which many children have been excited to start. We have been using our super knowledge of times tables from year 4 to help us find multiples and factors. We have even had a go at creating our own factor bugs to help us find all of the factor pairs of different numbers.
On Thursday, we had the most amazing time over at Manor Way for our Egyptian Day. We were able to showcase the knowledge we learnt in our history topic last half term as well as learning lots of new and exciting things! We had a go at playing one the oldest board games discovered, learnt about how Egyptians measured things and what life was like during this time period that lasted around 3000 years!
