Another Busy Two Weeks Have Flown By! ☀️

Wow, what a whirlwind the last fortnight has been! Time is absolutely flying, and despite the beautifully warm weather and our packed schedules, everyone in Year 5 has continued to work incredibly hard. The teachers could not be prouder of the determination and best efforts being shown every single day.

Here is a little look at what we have been up to:

✍️ English: Saving the Rang-tans!

We have officially kicked off our final English unit of the year, and it is a powerful one. We are focusing on persuasive writing, using the famous 2018 Iceland Christmas advert about Rang-tan as our inspiration.

The children are incredibly engaged and cannot wait to research more about palm oil and the devastating effects deforestation has on these wonderful animals. Get ready for some deeply passionate and persuasive advertising coming your way soon!

🔢 Maths: Powering Through Volume & Problem Solving

In maths, we have officially wrapped up our topic on shape and volume. A big highlight was learning all about cubed numbers. Even though it felt a little tricky to begin with, the classroom was bursting with resilience as everyone pushed through the challenge.

With that under our belts, we have now moved on to our final topic of the year: problem solving. It is time to put all our brilliant maths skills from this year to the ultimate test!

🔌 Science: Sparks of Brilliance!

We have had an absolute blast with some hands-on practical work in science! The children have been busy building their own electrical circuits.

Our big mission was to figure out how to make a bulb dimmer or brighter. Through some fantastic investigating, the classes discovered that adding more batteries to the circuit did the trick! It was lots of fun and there were definitely a few "lightbulb moments" in the room.

🗓️ The Final Countdown...

Can you believe there are only two weeks left to go of Year 5?

They are going to be incredibly busy, jam-packed weeks, but we have so many fun things planned to celebrate a fantastic year together. We absolutely cannot wait to make the most of every last minute!
