30th April 2026
We’ve had an absolutely brilliant fortnight here in Year 5. Time is flying by, and we have been so busy learning new skills and uncovering ancient mysteries.
It has been wonderful watching everyone’s skills and confidence grow during our swimming lessons. From perfecting our strokes to gaining confidence in the deep end, everyone has done a "fin-tastic" job! We are all feeling a little bit sad that our sessions are almost at an end, but we’ve definitely made the most of every minute in the pool.
In English, we have been diving deep into the icy world of the Antarctic! We have been busy researching all about Emperor Penguins. We have prepared to write our very own non-chronological reports. The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as we discovered amazing facts about how these birds survive the freezing cold.
Marvelous Maths 📏
We have officially finished our unit on transformations, where we mastered flipping, sliding, and turning shapes. Now, we’ve moved on to the world of measurement. We have been:
Exploring different units of length, mass, and capacity.
Learning the "magic" of converting between them (like turning grams into kilograms!).
Testing our estimation skills.
Our Whole Class Reading book, Who Let the Gods Out?, is getting seriously intense! We’ve had so many laughs so far, but the story just took a very dark and unpredictable turn. Elliot and Virgo have accidentally released Thanatos—an evil daemon—from a cave! The atmosphere in the room was electric as we read that chapter. We’ve been busy making predictions about what might happen to the world now that a daemon is on the loose. We can’t wait to turn the page and see if our guesses are right!
