Year 4 Blog Post - 27.02.2026

26th February 2026

This week, Year 4 have brought together their work on the Anglo-Saxons in History and newspapers in English. With a little bit of magic and imagination, we discovered that there were Anglo-Saxon ruins underneath the school field. We had discussed in History that Tenterfields would be a great location for a small Anglo-Saxon settlement as it was high up with great visibility of Halesowen around us. This meant that the Anglo-Saxons would be able to see anyone approaching who may invade.

Here is a brief summary of our class piece of writing.

History Unearthed at Tenterfields!

Our Year 4 students made a "once-in-a-career" discovery yesterday when they found a hoard of ancient Anglo-Saxon silver coins buried near the old oak tree. Local historians confirmed the artifacts are authentic 7th or 8th-century sceattas and jewelry fragments.

The County Archaeological Service (CAS) has cordoned off the area to investigate this significant find, which was likely buried for protection over a thousand years ago. We are incredibly proud of our eagle-eyed students for uncovering such a magnificent piece of local history right here on our playground.

On top of this amazing work, we have had a real push on presentation in Year 4. We are really trying to join our handwriting and our maths books are looking incredible.

We have also started really seeing the benefits of our TTRS push with some of our class getting 25/25 for the very first time. I am so proud of the progress everyone is making.
