What a brilliant and busy fortnight it has been in Year 4! The children have shown tremendous focus as they’ve tackled complex new skills in Maths and Geography, while also enjoying some wonderful creative and collaborative activities.
In Maths, we have successfully moved into multiplication and division. The children have been focused on short multiplication, learning the formal written method to tackle three-digit numbers. They have also been fantastic at challenging themselves with mental division strategies, showing great resilience as they break down larger numbers to solve problems quickly and accurately. This focus on both written and mental methods is building a strong foundation for future learning.
Our whole class reading has been a huge highlight! We have been absorbed in the captivating story, 'The Boy, the Bird and the Coffin Maker.' The children are truly enjoying this unique and beautifully written text. This shared reading time is not only developing their comprehension skills but also inspiring some brilliant language usage in their own writing.
In English, we have been working on a lovely cross-curricular link by studying the natural environment. The children planned and then drafted their very own original poems based on the river. They explored powerful vocabulary and descriptive imagery to bring the river's movement and sounds to life. We have seen some stunning, evocative writing this week!
Our Geography lessons have seen us look up, high into the clouds! We have been exploring the process of mountain formation and learning about the different types of mountains that exist around the world. Understanding how natural forces shape our planet has sparked so much curiosity, and the children have enjoyed comparing fold, fault-block, and dome mountains.
We celebrated our final swimming session this week! The children did exceptionally well, ticking off their final skills and goals. To reward all their hard work and great behaviour over the term, we finished with a well-deserved fun day in the pool. Congratulations to all our Year 4 swimmers!
We look forward to continuing our creative journey and applying all these fantastic new skills in the run-up to the winter break!
