Elf Day was a lot of fun in Year 4 as we made wonderful cards to give to people within our communities as an act of kindness. Some children are giving their cards to their dance teacher, football coaches, their favourite next door neighbour. What really shone through was how everyone instantly thought of someone in their lives who they wanted to send a card too.
We have completed our first My Happy Mind unit and are now really confident talking about Team H-A-P. This stands for 3 parts of our brain:
● The Hippocampus - is like a scrapbook storing our memories and things that we learn.
● The Amygdala - is there to react to keep us safe when there is danger. It cannot assess danger. It can only react if it senses it by Fighting, Flighting or Freezing!
● The Prefrontal Cortex - helps us to make decisions, understand different perspectives, solve problems, analyse and make choices.
We’re really looking forward to extending our learning next term when we begin our Celebrate unit about our character strengths.
In Computing we have been looking at hardware and software. We've been looking at what technology actually is, discovering how it pops up everywhere in our daily lives—from the smart devices at home to the interactive whiteboards we use at school and the wider world beyond. The children have become excellent detectives, identifying and describing the different parts of a computer. We've explored the difference between hardware (the physical parts you can touch, like the screen or keyboard) and software (the programs and apps that make the hardware do useful things). They now understand that it's the clever teamwork between hardware and software that lets us complete all kinds of tasks, whether it’s writing a story, researching a project, or even just setting an alarm! This deeper understanding is helping them become confident and thoughtful users of technology
