🎨 Artistic Adventures: Year 4 Channels Their Inner Miró!

This week, Year 4 stepped into a world of color and imagination to celebrate World Art Day. Our young artists took a deep dive into the whimsical, surrealist world of Spanish master Joan Miró, and the results were nothing short of spectacular!

🖌️ Finding Inspiration

We explored Miró’s signature style—his use of bold primary colors, abstract shapes, and those iconic "dream-like" lines. The children discussed how he transformed simple ideas into extraordinary masterpieces, using his work as a springboard for their own creativity.

🖼️ Self-Portraits with a Twist

Using Miró's abstract techniques, the students set to work on their self-portraits. Rather than aiming for realism, they focused on expressing their personalities through vibrant symbols and bold geometric forms. It was wonderful to see how each student interpreted themselves through an "abstract lens."

🗿 Leveling Up: Adding Sculpture

To kick off our brand-new art topic, we didn’t stop at the canvas! Students were challenged to build a sculptural element into their portraits. By adding 3D textures and protruding shapes, they brought their artwork to life, bridging the gap between flat painting and physical form.

🤝 Building Connections: Our New 'Relate' Unit

In our MyHappyMind sessions this week, Year 4 officially launched our new unit: Relate. This module is all about understanding the "social" part of our brains and learning how to build strong, positive friendships with the people around us.

🌟 Celebrating Our Differences

A major focus of this unit is recognizing that everyone is unique. Just like the different shapes and colors in our Miró-inspired artwork, every student brings something different to our classroom community. We are learning that:

  • Differences are strengths: Our diverse interests and personalities make our group stronger.

  • Perspective-taking: We are practicing how to see the world through someone else’s eyes.

Active Listening: Understanding that good relationships start with really hearing what others have to say.
