3rd December 2025
Year 4 have been very busy for the last couple of weeks! From taking our termly assessment papers and composing musical pieces with our groups, we have been working really hard, however we always have a ‘whale’ of a time! We are so proud of how well the children have tackled their assessment papers: they all deserve a very big well done!
In English we began our new narrative text The Whale by Ethan & Vita Murray. We have been preparing to write our own narrative by learning about noun phrases, relative clauses alliteration and rhetorical questions. We have been using punctuation and a range of amazing vocabulary to write sentences in preparation for writing and we have been practising our handwriting skills.
In Maths we have been learning about all things data related including: bar graphs, pictograms and time graphs. We have also been practising a range of arithmetic skills such as answering rounding to the nearest 10, times tables and division questions.
In Science we have been learning about sound and we even went on a sound walk around the school to see what we could hear! We have been learning about the structure and jobs of all of the different parts of the ear.In Geography we have been studying the Himalayas and learning about the challenges faced by mountain climbers such as altitude sickness, dealing with extreme temperatures and fatigue. We learnt that the first people to conquer Everest were Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing in May 1953.
In music lessons we have been learning about the rainforest and worked hard to creat rainforest sounds using our bodies as well as with tuned percussion instruments (Glockenspiels). We worked with our group to compose fantastic pieces of music!
We are really looking forward to the next few weeks in school where it will be all things Christmas!
