Year 2 Blog - 08.11.2024

8th November 2024

What a fantastic first week back at school after half term! We have all settled back in straight away

This week we have engaged in so many fun learning activities!

In English, we have started our new topic, all about poetry! The poem we have looked at is called the ‘bathroom fiddler’ by Michael Rosen. We are going to take inspiration from this poem to eventually write our own all about things we fiddle with and mess with on our desks. So far, we have read the poem, listened to Michael Rosen perform the poem and we have looked at the key parts, splitting it into sections and ensuring we have a deep understanding of it.

In Maths, we have continued our learning of measuring lengths!  We have used our rulers and metre sticks to measure objects around the classroom as well as measuring our arms, legs and feet!

In Geography, we have explored using and understanding maps. We have worked in groups to design and make a map of our school. We had so much fun!

We have also started our new topic in Design and Technology. Eventually, we will design and make a chair for a baby bear. This week, we started looking at the structure and stability of different shapes. We used play-doh to make a sphere, pyramid and a cube to see which shape was the most stable on a piece of card. We found out that the pyramid had the best stability.
