Year 3 Blog Post- 06.02.2026

6th February 2026

It’s been another exciting couple of weeks in Year 3, full of creativity, curiosity, and fantastic effort across every subject. The children have impressed me with their enthusiasm and their all around approach to their learning.

In English, we have been writing explanation reports all about the nocturnal hedgehog. To begin, we spent time researching to find out more about these fascinating creatures — what they eat, how they protect themselves with their sharp spines, and other wonderful facts about their behaviour and habitats. The children were amazed to learn that hedgehogs can travel a surprising distance each night in search of food and that they hibernate during the colder months. Once we had gathered plenty of facts, we used our notes to plan and then write our reports, focusing on clear explanations, technical vocabulary, and engaging openings to capture our readers’ interest. The finished pieces are informative, detailed, and beautifully presented.

In Maths, we have been exploring multiplication and division, making great use of our understanding of place value to help us multiply and divide by 10. The children have worked hard to recognise patterns and use practical strategies to move digits correctly when changing place value. We’ve also been revising our 2 and 4 times tables and using them to create links to the 8 times table, helping to deepen understanding and improve fluency. It’s been brilliant to see how much more confident everyone has become with these concepts.

Our class reading sessions have been especially fun as we continue to dive into the imaginative world of The Nothing to See Here Hotel. We’ve now met the unforgettable Prince Grogbah, whose demanding and mischievous behaviour has brought chaos to the hotel! The children have loved discussing his character, making predictions, and sharing theories about what this little goblin might be hiding.

In R.E., we have been learning about Jesus’ miracles. We began by discussing sickness and exploring the differences between physical and emotional symptoms. We then read the story of Jesus healing the blind man, thinking about how Christians believe this miracle showed Jesus’ compassion and power.

Our History lessons have focused on the Industrial Revolution, where we learned how life changed for workers after the Mines Act of 1842 and about James Brindley’s brilliant invention of the canal system.

It has been a wonderful couple of weeks of learning. The children have produced some outstanding work and shown real curiosity, teamwork, and pride in everything they do.
