We have had a very exciting couple of weeks in year 3. We have been enjoying getting to know the BFG and Sophie in our whole class reading book. The children have loved learning about the Stone Age and seeing how lives have changed over time. They also had a very exciting treat towards the end of the week where they received their iPads.
In our writing lessons the children have been working very hard to create their own traditional tale but not quite how we remember them. They have been putting their own twist on the classic Little Red Riding Hood. The children have really enjoyed creating their stories and their creative ideas have been wonderful to read.
In maths we have been using different strategies to help us solve a range of addition and subtraction calculations. We have been using strategies such as make 10, round and adjust and near doubles. The children have loved exploring what strategy works best for them, they then developed this by applying this to money problems.
In history we have been continuing our topic all about the Stone Age. We looked at the significance of StoneHenge and what they might have used this for. The children then went on to create their own Stonehenge’s out of lollipop sticks which allowed them to understand the positions of the different stones. We then looked at some other sources to give us a better understanding of what tools they used and see how these have developed over time.
We had a very exciting end to the week with the presentation of our IPads. The children were extremely excited to receive their very own iPad and begin to explore all its features. I know they are very excited to begin using them in our learning.
