Year 3 Blog - 20.12.2024

20th December 2024

Year 3 have thrown themselves into all things Christmas. We have enjoyed our festive activities making cards, calendars and decorations. This week we have loved all of our wonderful Christmas activities.

In our English lessons, we have been writing our independent stories. Our stories have followed an elf who encounters a bit of a problem when he boards Santa sleigh. The Children began by planning out their plot points drawing a picture for each event before planning a sentence for each of their plot points. They then began their independent writing. The children used their planning to help them write out their story. We used our sentence stacking to help plan our sentences and structure our writing. We began by introducing our character and then telling our reader about their dream before creating our very own ideas about things that could go wrong such as dropping a present from the sleigh and encountering creatures of the north pole. The children have loved this writing and have really shown their creativity.

In our R.E. lessons, we have been exploring the true meaning of Christmas. The children have explored Christian beliefs and why they celebrate Christmas. We looked at what the difference was between a tradition and what represented the true meaning. The children then filled a Christmas tree with words to show traditions and their true meaning. We then looked at what Christians do at Christmas and how they show love to one another. The children then created a script showing how Christians show love through the different events they participate in such as singing carols, praying and visiting loved ones.

We really enjoyed visiting Santa and telling him about the lovely things we would like for Christmas. We really enjoyed our performance in the Church and showing everyone what an Aussie Christmas is all about (I think it is safe to say that song will be playing in our heads over and over again!) It has been a wonderful festive week to end our first term of year 3. I cannot believe we have already completed a term of year 3. The children have settled in wonderfully and have worked so hard. I know they will continue to work really hard going into next term. Enjoy your Christmas break. I hope you have a wonderful break and Santa brings you some lovely presents.
