Year 3 Blog - 18/09/2026

16th September 2026

We have had a wonderful couple of weeks and have truly settled straight back into our school routine! I am loving seeing how much progress the children are already making, and I cannot wait to watch them grow even further throughout this year.

Here is a look at what we have been learning:

In Writing, the children have planned, written, edited, and published their very first independent write of the year! They created atmospheric setting descriptions based on the BFG's cave. The children did an amazing job bringing their descriptions to life using their five senses and incorporating rich expanded noun phrases into their work. Be sure to check out some of their incredible published pieces below!

We have been busy exploring place value as well as addition and subtraction with 2-digit numbers. The children did a fantastic job recapping this knowledge from Year 2, and we cannot wait to start building on these foundations with 3-digit numbers in our upcoming lessons.

This week, we celebrated International Dot Day! We explored the story The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and talked about what it means to make a mark. Each child created their own individual artwork, starting with a single dot and letting their creativity turn it into something unique. We also created a collaborative class canvas, painting a variety of colorful dots together to see how simple marks can create a beautiful piece of art.

Not to mention, the class has completely blown Miss Wall away with their incredible learning behaviours! They have demonstrated beautiful star sitting, excellent tracking eyes, and brilliant partner work using our ABC sentence stems to build on their peers' ideas and answers during class discussions.

We cannot wait to keep using all of these brilliant skills as we continue our Year 3 journey!
