Welcome back to our Year 3 blog! We’ve had an absolute blast over the last couple of weeks, and the classrooms have been buzzing with creativity, problem-solving, and a whole lot of hard work.

First of all, a massive well done to the children for their amazing "Dads, Dudes, and Donuts" performance. They practised so hard and did a truly brilliant job on the day—it was so lovely to see their confidence shine through! On top of that, we've been continuing to develop our guitar skills in music, and it’s been great fun watching everyone get to grips with their chords and rhythm.

In our reading and writing lessons, we have sadly come to the end of our adventures with Akimbo. We have absolutely loved this book as a class, and the children have written some brilliant book reviews to share their thoughts and favourite parts of the story. They also finished off their alternative versions of the classic Snow White tale. It was fantastic to see so many creative ideas pouring out of the children, and they produced some wonderful pieces of writing. Now, we’re moving on to a brand-new topic all about instructions. We’ve started by hunting for the main features of the text, like fronted adverbials, imperative verbs, subordinating conjunctions, and prepositions. We’ll be exploring each of these one by one before the children get to write their very own set of instructions on how to survive Year 3!

Over in maths, we’ve been sticking with our measures topic and putting our skills to the test with some tricky word problems. We’ve been using bar models to help us figure out addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. The children have done a brilliant job at using their detective skills to spot what we already know in the question, and then using their handy maths strategies to find the mystery answer.

Our science lessons have been all about green fingers lately! We’ve been exploring plants and everything they need to survive. The children then used all their new knowledge to create some fantastic, informative posters about how to keep plants healthy. They learned all about how a plant can tell you what it needs by doing things like wilting or changing colour when it's not feeling its best.

It really has been a great couple of weeks exploring all our topics, and the excitement is building because we’re all looking forward to sports day next week. Fingers crossed for some lovely weather, and thank you all for your continued support!
