Year 3 Blog - 16.05.2025

16th May 2025

We have had a great couple of weeks in year 3 with celebrating VE day, following along with Akimbo on his adventures and creating our own poems.

In our writing lessons we have been creating our very own poems all about a memory thief. We have used the colour collector poem we created as a class to help us identify the features of the poem and create our own poems. The children have written all about their memories from their favourite foods to their favourite sounds around them. They have created some wonderful pieces of writing.

Maths has been all about exploring equivalent fractions. We started by exploring how halves, quarters and sixths are connected before exploring thirds, fifths and ninths. The children have been using their multiplication skills to connect the numbers and spot the pattern. They have also been using the cuisenaire rods to show a range of equivalent fractions.

In our history lessons we have been continuing exploring the Maya. We have been looking into the gods and how the Mayans had many gods for all the things around them. We then looked at how each god had a good and bad side to them. The children then used this to create their own god. They started by drawing their god before creating the name and decided what their god represented. We then explored Mayan villages and what a Mayan city state looked like. The children then created their own village including a temple, mud huts and jungle.
