We have had a brilliant start to the term. The children have settled in brilliantly and have been working very hard. We have been enjoying our Roald Dahl day and our R.E. Day all about Sikhism where we looked at the 5 k’s and their importance to Sikhs.
In English we have been writing our own version of a traditional tale. We have been using the true story where the wolf is telling us what really happened with those three little pigs. The children have been using this story to write their own version of events.
In maths we have been looking at numbers and how they are made. We have been using dienes to show the value of a number. The children have then been choosing a number and showing the different ways it can be represented such as in words, numerals, picture format and on a number line. We have also been looking at inverse operations and commutativity to help us solve different calculations.
In science the children have been exploring scientific experiments. They have been conducting experiments to see what materials would be best to build a boat. The children conducted an experiment to see which materials would sink and which would float. They then looked at the properties of the materials to help them think of other materials. They then moved on to experimenting to find the best material for the sail.
Our history topic has seen us exploring chronology so we have a clear understanding of where the timeline fits in our historical timeline. The children used dates to create a timeline of historical events they worked together to create a full scale timeline. We then moved onto creating a timeline of the Stone Age and begin to look at then features of each era of the Stone Age.
