Another two weeks have flown by in year 3 and what a brilliant two weeks they have been. We have been writing poetry, enjoying our amazing Stone Age day, Learning all about frobscottle and snozcumbers in the BFG.
In maths we have been exploring place value. The children have been exploring place value through the use of dienes. We have been looking at how numbers are made and breaking them down into Hundreds, tens and ones. The children used their ipads to explore how different numbers were made. They also have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest multiple of 10 and 100.
In our writing lessons we have enjoyed creating poems for a wonderverse competition. The children were tasked with creating a poem about anything, their brief was to make it as exciting and creative as possible. They have loved creating their pieces to help us generate our ideas. Wediscussed the different features of poems such as Stanzas and rhyming. We have looked at the different types of poems and how they tell either a story or show an emotion towards something. The children have created some wonderful pieces and shown their creative skills.
In history we really enjoyed our amazing Stone Age day. The children really engaged and made sure they fully immersed themselves in the day. We started by exploring who the Stone Age people were and how they evolved through the palaeolithic, mesolithic and neolithic eras. The children even managed to learn some great skills from hunting to building their own tools. They even captured the woolly mammoth!!!!!! We looked at some skulls to see how features changed overtime and how they compared to the Stone Age era.
In cooking we have been preparing to make our very own seasonal tart. We have explored where different foods come from around the world. We have looked at the different climates around the world and how this affects what foods grow. We then developed our peeling and cutting skills, learning the different holds when cutting and remembering how to prepare foods safely. This week the children have been enjoying tasting the different foods such as cabbage, radishes, cucumber and tomatoes. The children indulged and explored the different tastes, textures and colours before deciding what they might like to use for their own seasonal tart.
It has been a very immersive and creative couple of weeks in year 3 and the children have been really engaged with all of these brilliant activities.
