Year 3 Blog - 11.04.2025

11th April 2025

Wow! I can’t quite believe the end of the Spring term is here. The children have worked so hard and created some wonderful pieces of work throughout this term. They should be very proud of all their achievements this term. We have been very busy with exploring plants, writing adventure stories, looking at multiplication and division then exploring time.

In our writing lessons we have been exploring colour in preparation for our new writing topic. We have used shading and mixing colours to see how colours can change. Our new writing topic is a poem all about a thief who comes in and steals the colour from all around leaving us in a colourless world. The children have explored how mixing primary colours can lead to different shades. We have also looked at how colours can make us feel different emotions and can even affect whether we feel warm or cold.  We are prepared to use all our knowledge ready to write our own poem all about this colour thief.

In maths we have been learning all about time. We have been using our previous learning to help us read the time not just to the nearest five minutes but to the nearest minute!!! We have been looking at the difference between analogue and digital and exploring how time can be represented in different ways. The children then took all their knowledge to solve some very tricky word problems all about time.

In Geography we went on a tour of Europe and all their famous landmarks. We have looked at all the landmarks in Europe and their locations. We did spot that a lot of landmarks are located in capital cities and discussed how this has a big impact on tourism and the economy. The children then chose their favourite landmark and created some brilliant fact files full of amazing information. The children really showed off their knowledge and were very persuasive using all their interesting facts to encourage each other to visit them. It was great to see and I think we have some travel guides on our hands in year 3.

We have also started our new whole class reading book ‘The Akimbo Adventures.’ This book is split into three different stories all of which follow a boy who lives on a game reserve in Africa. Akimbo the main character loves animals and wants to make sure they are protected from evil poachers. The first story is all about saving the elephants from poachers, Akimbo uses a slightly different method to make sure he can keep them as safe as possible. The children have really been enjoying following Akimbo and his heroic behaviour.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and have a well deserved rest ready for our summer term (I can’t quite believe I'm saying that already.) I am sure it will be filled with many more achievements and lots of different exciting events as always!!!
