Year 3 Blog - 04/09/2026

4th September 2026

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful summer holiday. I was so excited to welcome the children back on Wednesday, and we have had a brilliant first three days settling into our new routines, recapping the flow of the school day, and discussing what an exciting year we have ahead in KS2!

Here is a quick look at what we have been up to during our first few days together:

We dove straight into our reading curriculum, where our very first book of the term is The BFG by Roald Dahl. The children have explored the front cover and blurb to make some fantastic, insightful predictions. We also had some great discussions exploring the traditional stereotype of giants and debated whether we think the BFG will fit that mold or prove to be completely different.

We have kicked off the term by diving into number and place value. Our primary focus has been getting to grips with the hundreds column, using practical resources and visual models to build confidence. We cannot wait to explore this further next week.

The class was thrilled to discover that our Geography unit this half term is all about our local area—the West Midlands! Over the coming weeks, we will be uncovering key local facts, exploring what the Midlands was like in the past, and investigating how our region has changed over time.

It has been a wonderful start, and the energy in the classroom is fantastic. I am really looking forward to our first full week together starting on Monday, and I cannot wait to watch all of the children grow and progress throughout this year!
