We have had a fantastic two weeks in Year 3, filled with exciting learning. Our swimming lessons have now begun, and it was wonderful to see the children’s confidence developing even during the very first week. Many children showed great determination in the water, and we are looking forward to seeing their skills grow over the coming weeks.
This week, the children also completed their assessments and worked incredibly hard throughout. They approached each assessment with focus and perseverance and should be very proud of themselves. Their positive attitudes have been a real credit to them.
In our writing lessons, we have begun exploring the fascinating world of the Woolly Mammoth. The children have enjoyed learning about this incredible Ice Age creature as we prepare to write our own non-chronological reports. They have shown great curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and gathering interesting facts that will help them produce some wonderful reports. It was very interesting to share some of these fascinating facts and learn all about the woolly mammoth's features, look at how these creatures became extinct and what they eat.
In maths, we have been developing our measuring skills. The children have been using rulers to measure accurately in centimetres and millimetres, gaining confidence in reading scales and understanding when and why we measure objects.
Our geography focus has taken us closer to home as we explored our region, the West Midlands. We discussed how its central location makes it an important area for trade and how its many transport links—such as motorways, railways, and canals—help goods and people travel efficiently. The children have explored how our region fits into the United Kingdom and the different towns and cities within our region.
In music, we have been discovering how music can tell a story. The children listened carefully to a piece of music and then created their own role-plays to show what they imagined was happening. They thought about how changes in the music created tension or excitement, and their creative interpretations resulted in some truly wonderful performances.
In our computing lessons we have been exploring flow charts and how we can programme a computed game. The children used their ipads to programme a game with a character and an animal. They then used their skills to make the character make a noise and the animal to move around. It was great to see the creativity and variety in games that were created.
I am very proud of the children this week and the effort they have shown in their assessments. I am also very interested in hearing more about these cheeky little elves that have appeared in many homes. I cannot believe one of them has been completing nuggets on century tech!!!!
