Year 3 Blog - 04.07.2025

4th July 2025

What a brilliant couple of weeks we’ve had in Year 3! It’s been full of energy, curiosity, and hands-on learning.  Our Sports Day was a huge success! The children gave their all in every event—from sprints to curling. There was fantastic team spirit and plenty of cheering from both the children and grown ups. It was a joy to see the children supporting one another and having so much fun. Well done to all the children on team Usain Bolt for their triumph!!!

In English, we’ve started exploring non-chronological reports. We looked at their features, such as headings, subheadings, and factual language. The children then began writing their own reports about the fascinating pangolin—a shy, scaly mammal with some amazing abilities. Their writing is already looking fantastic, with some brilliant hooks and snappy titles to grab their readers attention. We are definitely excited to keep writing our reports to share some facts about these amazing creatures.

We’ve been busy with measuring in maths. First, we learned how to read scales and identify intervals. Then we practised weighing objects using grams and kilograms. We also explored volume and read measurements on a range of containers. It’s been great to see the children apply these practical skills with confidence.

Our new geography topic is all about Fairtrade. We’ve learned why Fairtrade matters to farmers and how it supports fair working conditions. We also looked at Aimie’s story and how Fairtrade has changed her life. We also explored where our food comes from by examining packaging and using a world map to trace the origins of everyday items. We were certainly very surprised to find out just how far some of our everyday items have travelled.

In science we have been exploring the different food groups and why they are important for our bodies to work properly. We looked at a triathlete and his diet to explore the different food groups and their functions. The children then explored what effect proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, fruits and vegetables and fats have on our body.

Well done to all of Year 3 for their fantastic effort and enthusiasm. It’s been another amazing couple of weeks!
