What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had! Our classroom has been bustling with enthusiasm, curiosity, and fantastic learning across all subjects. From stepping back in time during our interactive Stone Age workshop to diving into the magical world of Roald Dahl’s The BFG, the children have engaged brilliantly with every challenge.
A real highlight over the past fortnight has been the children’s independent writing.
We have been dissecting character descriptions to uncover the secrets of brilliant writing. The children learned how to enrich their sentences using:
Expanded noun phrases to add vivid detail (e.g., his giant, floppy ears)
Fronted adverbials to describe how, when, or where actions happen (e.g., Quietly in the night, or With a warm smile,)
Commas in a list to keep their descriptions clear and structured
Similes
This week, the children were set the challenge of putting all these skills together to independently write a full character description of the BFG himself.
Miss Wall was absolutely blown away by the results! The quality of writing produced across the room was outstanding, packed with ambitious adjectives, precise adverbs, and wonderfully varied sentence structures.
Take a look at some of these fantastic pieces of work below!
