What a brilliant first week back. The children have settled back in wonderfully and we have dived straight back into our learning.
In maths we have been exploring all things fractions. We have started by identifying equal and unequal parts to make sure that we are splitting things equally. We have then been looking at identifying the whole and the parts to make our own fractions. We then moved on to exploring fractions of an amount. We looked at how we can split things into groups to identify how many are in each group.
We have been writing our own poem all about a thief who has come to steal all the colours. We started by gathering vocabulary for the way this thief has appeared. Then as if taking all the colour wasn’t bad enough he then took our cornflakes!!! We collected adjectives to describe our delicious cornflakes, we then used alliteration to show all of our wonderful fruit.
In science we have been continuing our plant topic. We have been looking at pollination and the different parts of the plant. The children then used their knowledge to create a role play to show the process. We also dissected a flower so we could identify the parts.
In geography we have been looking into the population in Europe. We began by matching countries in Europe with their population before using this knowledge to colour code our map. We used a light colour for the lower populated countries and darker colours to show the higher populated countries. We then explored London and why it is such a popular city. We then became travel agents creating our own advertising posters with pictures of tourist attractions and fun facts all about London.
We have been enjoying our whole class reading books all about Akimbo. We have been following along with his adventures. So far we have encountered Elephants and lions but we know there are so many more animals to meet on this game reserve.
