It has been another jam-packed week of learning and exploration in Year 2! The children have been working incredibly hard across all their subjects, and their enthusiasm for discovering new things is wonderful to see. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
In our writing sessions, we have officially finished our non-chronological reports about our favourite animals. From fierce tigers to cuddly pandas, the children are now filled with expert knowledge! The children focused on using headings, subheadings, and interesting facts to engage their readers. They look absolutely fantastic—well done, everyone!

This week in Maths, we’ve started exploring the world of fractions. We’ve been learning how to identify and find halves and quarters of shapes and quantities. We practiced by "cutting" shapes into equal parts to ensure they were fair. It’s been a great start to a tricky topic!
Our History lessons took us back to the Victorian era. We’ve been learning all about Queen Victoria and the massive changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution. We spent time looking at the incredible machines invented during that period—the children were fascinated by how different (and how loud!) life must have been back then.
In Science, our investigation into materials continued with a very soggy experiment! We asked the question: Is paper a good material to make a boat?
Our Prediction: Some thought it might work, while others were skeptical.
The Result: We soon realized paper is definitely not waterproof! Our boats didn't stay afloat for very long once they got wet.
The Solution: We brainstormed how to fix it and discovered that covering the bottom in cellotape created a waterproof barrier, helping our boats stay dry and buoyant.

Finally, in Art, we’ve been letting our creativity shine. We’ve been experimenting with color mixing to see how many new shades we can create, alongside mark-making to add different textures and patterns to our work. The classroom has been a vibrant hub of artistic energy!
