Year 2 Blog Post- 06.02.2026

6th February 2026

What a whirlwind of creativity and curiosity we’ve had in Year 2 this week! From the edges of the universe to the strokes of a paintbrush, our classroom has been buzzing with excitement. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:

This week, we reached the grand finale of our stories inspired by the beautiful book, Stardust. We worked incredibly hard to polish our final sentences, ensuring our tales ended with as much magic as they began. We cannot wait to independently write our own next week!

The best part? This journey has helped us all realize an important truth: we are all stars! Every student has found their own unique way to shine through their storytelling.

In Maths, we’ve been "breaking things down" quite literally! We dived into the world of fractions, and it’s been a total blast. We practiced:

  • Shading shapes: Learning how to visually represent halves, quarters, and thirds.

  • Fractions of amounts: Using our division skills to find fractions of different numbers.

Our iPads were out and our thinking caps were on during Computing this week. We became mini-programmers, using code to move our characters across a digital map. There was a lot of trial and error, but the perseverance in the room was amazing to see!

To wrap up our creative week, we took inspiration from the legendary artist Vincent van Gogh. Using vibrant chalks, we worked on replicating his masterpiece, The Starry Night. The classroom was a sea of swirls and bright yellows as we practiced our blending techniques. Our gallery of work looks simply stunning!

I  am so proud of how hard Year 2 is working. The enthusiasm for learning new things—whether it's a tricky maths problem or a new art style—it is wonderful to witness.
