What an exciting yet busy week we have had in year 2!
In our writing lessons, we’ve been preparing for our independent write by learning all about lions. We’ve been gathering interesting facts and we will be using them to create a non-chronological report. This means we are writing about lions in a way that doesn't follow a timeline, but instead focuses on different aspects, like where they live, what they eat, and how they grow. We’re excited to share our finished reports soon!
In maths, we’ve started a new unit all about fractions. We’ve been learning how to split shapes into equal parts, starting with halves. We’ve even experimented with paper, cutting it into equal halves in many different ways. It's been a great hands-on way to understand fractions better and how shapes can be divided into equal parts.
In art, we've been exploring colours and learning all about primary and secondary colours. We started by discovering the three primary colours: red, yellow, and blue. These are the colours that cannot be made by mixing other colours. Then, we mixed the primary colours together to create secondary colours like green, orange, and purple! It was so much fun experimenting and seeing the different colours we could make. We took inspiration from artists like Van Gogh and Cezanne, to create artwork that is raised and has texture to it.
Our science lessons have been all about life cycles. We’ve explored the life cycles of frogs and butterflies, learning about the different stages they go through – from eggs to tadpoles, and from caterpillars to butterflies! It’s been fascinating to see how both creatures grow and change over time.
In history, we’ve been learning about the famous King Henry VIII. We’ve discovered lots of interesting facts about his life, his six wives, and how he changed England’s history. We’ve even been comparing the past with our lives today to see what’s different and what’s the same!
What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 2! We can’t wait to continue exploring and learning more in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on our learning adventures!
