I have to end this week by saying just how incredibly proud I am of the children. They have been absolute superstars over the past few days. I am continuously impressed by how each and every child in Year 2 tries their absolute hardest, showing amazing perseverance whenever they face a tricky task. Their "can-do" attitudes are wonderful to see!

Here is a look at what we have been up to across the curriculum.

In our writing sessions, we have started exploring first-person perspective. To get a feel for how this works, we have been playing word detectives—highlighting key words like I, me, and my in our texts. The children then had a brilliant go at writing their own first-person sentences to get them fully prepared for their upcoming independent writing.

On top of that, we have completely nailed understanding and using expanded noun phrases (like the shimmering, deep blue ocean or the soft, grey felt). The description they are adding to their work is simply incredible!

Maths has been all about determination this week as we tackled column addition and subtraction with plenty of regrouping. These concepts were definitely tricky to begin with, but the children showed fantastic resilience. Thanks to their hard work, we are making great progress and building up some brilliant mathematical confidence.

Our new textiles unit has been a massive hit! The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring different fabrics and techniques. This is all building up to a very exciting project in a couple of weeks, where we will be putting our design skills to the test, cutting out templates, and sewing our very own felt pouches and purses. Watch this space!

We have also been jet-setting across the globe in Geography! The children have been exploring the 7 continents and 5 oceans of the world, learning where they are on the map. They are already fascinating facts experts, and we cannot wait to dive into more detail as we explore the 5 oceans over the coming weeks.
