Our Wild Adventure: Year 2 Visit the Safari Park!

What a spectacular day we had! Year 2 set off on a grand expedition this week to the safari park, and it was truly a trip to remember. In honour of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, our students transformed into "mini nature enthusiasts," showing incredible curiosity and respect for the natural world.

🦁 A Drive on the Wild Side

We kicked off our morning with an exciting driving safari. From the safety of our bus, we were lucky enough to spot:

Gentle Giants: Beautiful elephants and elegant giraffes (including some very cute babies!).

Stripes & Spots: Dazzling zebras and various species of deer.

The Big Cats: We were thrilled to see lions and tigers lounging in the sun.

It was wonderful to see the children’s faces light up as they saw these magnificent creatures up close for the very first time.

🧺 Picnic Chats

After our safari, we headed to a lovely picnic spot for lunch. The air was filled with excited chatter as we discussed our favourite sightings from the morning. It was the perfect chance to refuel before our afternoon of learning.

 Hands-on in the Workshop

Next, we headed to the "Creature Feature" workshop. This was a highlight for many, as we got to meet some smaller—but equally fascinating—animals. We learnt all about:

  1. Hedgehogs: Discovering how they protect themselves with their prickles.
  2. Chinchillas: Feeling just how incredibly soft their fur is!
  3. Hissing Cockroaches: Learning why they make that famous "hiss" sound.

The children were incredibly brave, with many getting the chance to hold and stroke these amazing creatures.

🐧 Focus on the Penguins

Since penguins were a firm favourite, we spent extra time at their enclosure. Channeling their inner David Attenborough, the children explored the penguin habitat and researched some "cool" facts:

Did you know? Many penguins live in freezing temperatures, but they stay warm thanks to their thick layer of blubber and tightly packed feathers!

🦇 Exploring Every Corner

To finish our day, we explored the rest of the park. We braved the Bat Cave, marvelled at the colourful birds, visited the chilly penguins, and took a closer look at the creepy crawlies.

It was a fantastic day of discovery, and the teachers were so proud of how well the children represented our school. We certainly have some future conservationists in our midst!
