Another two weeks have flown by in year 2 and what a brilliant two weeks they have been. We have been writing poetry, enjoying our amazing Great Fire of London workshop and have started to write parts of our story in English.
In maths we have been exploring place value. The children have been exploring place value through the use of blocks. We have been looking at how numbers are made and breaking them down into tens and ones. We have even started answering word problems where we need to add and subtract two 2-digit numbers!

In our writing lessons we have enjoyed creating acrostic poems for a poetry competition. The children were tasked with creating a poem about their goals and dreams. They have loved creating their pieces!
Also in our writing lessons we have started our new topic of The Little Red Reading Hood. Our aim is to write a narrative story about a well known traditional tale but to incorporate the characters love for books. We have even transformed our classroom into a library to experience what it is like!

In history we really enjoyed our amazing Great fire of London workshop. The children really engaged and made sure they fully immersed themselves in the morning. We started by exploring key facts about the fire, and the children even managed to learn some great skills for escaping a fire!

In science, we have started to learn about rockets, planes and different data collection methods. This week, we all designed and made our own paper aeroplanes and we tested them accurately to see how far they could travel. Our next step is to see how we can improve the planes to make them fly even further.
It has been a very immersive and creative couple of weeks in year 2 and the children have been really engaged with all of these brilliant activities.
