Year 2 Blog - 11.04.2025

11th April 2025

Wow! What a lovely last week of term!

The children have been incredibly busy across all subjects, demonstrating great focus and enthusiasm. Here's a peek at what they've been up to:

Fantastic Fiction in Writing!

Our budding authors have been hard at work planning and crafting their very own independent writing pieces this week. It's been wonderful to see their imaginations come to life on paper! We've also been exploring letter writing, with a particular task. The children wrote letters from the perspective of Tom to his Grandma, including some of the heartfelt things he wishes he could have said to her. This activity encouraged empathy and thoughtful expression, and the resulting letters were truly touching.

Making Waves with Volume and Capacity in Maths!

Things got a little splashy in maths this week as we dived into the concepts of volume and capacity! The children have been getting hands-on with measuring jugs and water, learning how to accurately read measurement scales. This practical approach has really helped them to understand the difference between the amount a container can hold (capacity) and the amount it currently holds (volume). We've seen some excellent teamwork and careful measuring going on!

Science Explorers Investigate Melting Ice!

Our young scientists have been busy conducting experiments this week! We put on our investigative hats to explore the fascinating question: Does salt make ice melt quicker? The children made predictions, carefully observed the ice with and without salt, and recorded their findings. This hands-on experiment was a great way to learn about the properties of matter and the scientific method. We saw some very interesting results and sparked some great discussions!

Creative Card Making for Easter!

With Easter just around the corner, the classroom has been a hive of creative activity! The children have thoroughly enjoyed designing and making their own Easter cards. We've seen a fantastic array of colourful designs, from colourful easter eggs to bright spring flowers. These handmade cards are sure to bring a smile to your face

It's been another fantastic week filled with learning, exploration, and creativity. I am so proud of the hard work and engagement of everyone!

I hope you all have a fantastic and safe Easter holiday! I can’t wait to see you all in two weeks!
