Year 2 Blog - 04.12.2025

3rd December 2025

What a fantastic and busy week we've had in Year 2! We've been super focused, from tackling tricky maths problems to getting creative with our writing and building stable structures in DT. Miss Wall is so incredibly proud of all the hard work and effort you've put in, especially during all our challenges and tests!

We've been mastering multiplication and division by continuing to use arrays. Arrays are super helpful because they show us equal rows and columns, making it much easier to see the connection between the two operations.

We've started an exciting new writing topic! We took inspiration from the brilliant and famous poem 'The Bathroom Fiddler' by Michael Rosen. We listened carefully to how he uses descriptive language and repetition. Now, we're writing our very own poem called 'The Desk Diddler'! We've been looking around our tables and thinking about all the things we 'fiddle' with: the rubber, the pencil pot, the loose thread on our jumper! We're writing fantastic stanzas full of silly and imaginative ideas. You are becoming amazing poets!

In DT, we became brilliant engineers! We've been exploring the stability of different shapes, seeing which ones are the best at holding weight. We experimented with cubes, pyramids, and cylinders to see which design was the strongest. The results were astonishing! We found out that 22 cylinders made of rolled-up paper could hold the weight of an incredible 113 books! That's almost as tall as Miss Wall! It shows how strong simple shapes can be when built carefully.
