Year 2 Blog - 03.07.2026

3rd July 2026

Wow, what an incredibly busy, productive, and exciting week we’ve had here in Year 2! With only two weeks left until the summer holidays, you might think we’d be winding down—but we are definitely not slowing down. This academic year has absolutely flown by, but the children are still working incredibly hard and making me so proud every single day.

Here is a little look at what we have been up to this week:

This week, our writing focus required a massive amount of imagination and independence. The children planned and wrote a fantastic independent piece from a highly unique perspective—a bee! Writing in the first person ("I"), they described what it feels like to fly from flower to flower, the hard work of collecting pollen, and the triumph of buzzing back to the hive. The creativity was truly buzzing in the classroom, and the final pieces are an absolute joy to read. They’ve shown a wonderful grasp of descriptive language and expanded vocabulary.

In maths, we have been diving deep into multiplication. The children have been put to the test, using their problem-solving skills and times-table knowledge to tackle some tricky multi-step challenges. It has been brilliant to see them applying what they know to solve more complex word problems. Everyone is trying their absolute best to earn those coveted silver pencils! Keep up the hard work, Year 2—your mathematical confidence is soaring.

Our DT lesson this week required a huge amount of maturity and focus. The children took a big step up by using sharper needles to sew two layers of felt together for our ongoing project. Because the needles were sharp, we had an important discussion beforehand about being safe, responsible, and mindful of others. Every single child was incredibly sensible. They showed amazing resilience when the threading got tricky and looked out for one another with wonderful kindness. The progress on their running stitches is fantastic!

In music, we have been working hard on listening, clapping and writing beats in music! We have loved it!

I honestly cannot believe there are only two weeks left of this school year. It has gone by in an absolute flash, but I am determined to make these last two weeks the absolute best ones yet, packed with more brilliant learning and memory-making.

Thank you so much for your continued support at home—it makes a world of difference. Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!
