Year 2 Blog - 02.05.2025

2nd May 2025

Welcome back, Year 2 adventurers! What a fantastic first week back in the classroom, with lots of exciting learning already taking place.

Oh No! Our felt tip pens have gone on strike! In our writing lessons, the colourful world of "The Day the Crayons Quit" has captured our imaginations. We've been exploring Duncan's box of crayons and all their hilarious opinions! Get ready, because in a few weeks, we'll be putting on our persuasive hats and writing letters to our missing felt tip pens, trying our best to convince them to come back to our classroom and join the fun.

Maths has seen us diving into the world of measurement, specifically millilitres (ml) and litres (L). We've been busy filling containers and comparing amounts, and it's been brilliant to see how confidently you're now using this knowledge to solve some tricky word problems. Who knew measuring could be so much fun?

Our science topic this half-term is all about materials, and we kicked things off with an exciting material hunt around the classroom. You became super detectives, carefully observing different objects, identifying the materials they are made from, and deciding whether they are natural or man-made. It was amazing to see your investigative skills in action!

In art we have explored how to manipulate paper into make the roots and shoots of a plant. This creative lesson has started to get us ready to use stick and thread in a few weeks time to make stick characters!

Finally, in Geography, we've set sail on a journey back in time to learn about the Titanic. We've been discovering what daily life was like for the passengers and crew on this famous ship, and we all did a fantastic job of bringing the different classes to life through some engaging role-play.

What a busy and brilliant first week back!. Keep up the amazing effort, Year 2, we have lots more exciting things planned for the weeks ahead!
